DreamSpace Academy was founded on 30 September 2018 in Batticaloa.

It grew out of the Sagacious Youth Lead Consortium, running since 2013, and out of work carried out under the DreamSpace name from around 2015. Those are earlier chapters rather than competing founding dates.

The academy was incubated by BOOKBRIDGE: a short structured programme ending in a pitch, a soft loan rather than a grant, and a centre set up as a social enterprise run by a local entrepreneur who was left owning it.

147 individuals were engaged in the first year. The earliest partners were BOOKBRIDGE, UN Volunteers, the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award in Sri Lanka, the Centre for Peacebuilding and Reconciliation, and OpenEdge.
