Shanjeevan Amalanathan (community innovator here, co-founder of the ocean venture OceanBiome, and the person behind the underwater glider) became the first Asian accepted onto the Glider School programme at the Oceanic Platform of the Canary Islands, selected from a large international field.
The sequence took three years: he came into the makerspace in Batticaloa, built an underwater glider, was named in Parliament, co-founded an ocean venture, and was admitted to a specialist European ocean-technology programme.
It is recorded as one person’s path, not as a rate.
