MakerSpace Batticaloa launches

MakerSpace Batticaloa was unveiled in August 2024 as the first dedicated makerspace in the district: hands-on workshops in robotics, 3D design, coding and more, on a challenge-based model aimed at real community problems.

Within days the organisation was recruiting trainers in electronics, coding, 3D printing, laser cutting, woodworking and metalworking.

Making has happened here since 2019. What happened in 2024 is that it got its own space, its own name and its own staff. The Canadian High Commissioner came back three weeks later to see it.
