“It’s About Time: Travelling History Museum” came to Devanayagam Hall in Batticaloa from 9 to 16 July 2024, coordinated here for Search for Common Ground.
The museum asks visitors to reflect critically on Sri Lanka’s recent history, to acknowledge that there are multiple narratives of it, and to close the gap between official accounts and lived ones.
It is the largest-reach event in the record. It is also the most delicate: an exhibition about contested history, in a district where that history is not abstract, run by an organisation that has to keep working with everyone in it afterwards.
