Empowerment Inside School, the in-school information technology and robotics programme, ran across two districts in 2025: 194 learners in the Batticaloa pilot and 306 in Hatton. It is delivered inside government schools with written zonal approval, on a challenge-based model rather than as an add-on club.
Teacher training carried it. In January a day of training on emerging technologies and teaching methods ran for the teachers of Shivananda Vidyalaya National School, led by Rathees Koneswaran and Rajadurai Govarthenan. In June a further day on artificial intelligence (everyday use, chatbots, preparing teaching materials, image generation) ran for English teachers across the Batticaloa West zone.
Supporting teachers is one of the World Bank’s education-technology principles, and it is the part most likely to determine whether anything remains after the programme ends.
The two figures above are enrolments as recorded, not evidence of learning gained. That measurement is the weakest part of the framework here.
